How to Reduce Stress When Learning

When we’re little children, we can hardly wait to grow older; this is because our parents and other adults seem to be leading lives that are more fulfilling than ours; we think that they get to do all the cool stuff while our lives are controlled by them. But only as we really grow older do we realize that an adult’s world is not as good as it seems when you look through the eyes of a child. It is filled with responsibilities, most of which involve a certain amount of stress and anxiety. In fact, the stress factor creeps in to our lives when we begin school, and the older we get, the more significant it becomes.

Learning and studying, especially for exams, is a major contributor to students’ stress levels, and unless they learn how to limit it, they’re going to be the victims of burnout. If you’re a student, here’s how you can reduce stress while studying:

Don’t procrastinate: The best way to prepare for exams is to do a little every day. When you touch your books only a day or two before the big day, you suddenly realize how much there is to study in a very limited period of time and this makes your stress level shoot up. You start to panic and this makes things worse; you become less efficient at studying and as a result, fare badly in your exams. So do a little studying every day and see how easy it is to ace your exams without an iota of stress.

Be prepared: Some tests and exams are given on the spur of the moment, and if you haven’t been attending class and paying attention to what was being taught, you’re going to end up stressing yourself out and performing really badly in the process. When you’re prepared for anything, you’re less at risk for stress.
Pay attention in class: One of the most important things you need to do if you want to ace an exam is to pay attention in class when your professor or teacher is explaining the lesson. So make it a point not to skip class and to pay attention to everything that’s being said during the lecture. When you feel that you know more about the subject without even opening your books, you gain a sense of confidence that decreases your stress level and boosts your performance.

Get enough sleep: Most of us tend to stay up all night before an exam because we leave studying till the last minute. Rather than being beneficial, the lack of sleep dulls our brain and leaves us unable to focus and concentrate. The more you go without sleep, the harder it is to study. So ensure that you get at least six hours of sleep or more during your exams in order to minimize the effects of stress on your body.

Stay healthy:
Unfortunately for most of us, health is one aspect of learning that is not given the importance it deserves. Only when you’re healthy is it possible to concentrate on your lessons and learn effectively. So eat healthy food and get some exercise in order to keep your body healthy and allow your brain to focus on studying.
